Post-Wedding: Almost-Fails

By Every Tradition · Every Tradition
We're a mess. I mean, a good mess of course. You know how you plan and work hard to do everything just right? Well, here are some post-wedding reflections...you know the things that happen that no one really notices but are fun to remember? I love this part of that weekend. Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches (I may have Dan write a post about that particular phrase one of these days).

Almost-Fail #1 Mom always taught us if we weren't 5 minutes early, we were late...
Sarah and I were late to the bridesmaids' luncheon for Allie's wedding. Some might think it was poor planning, however it is more like a "less than honest" or "over-ambitious" nail technician. We had 2 hours. At least our nails looked pretty and Grammie, Aunt Margaret, Sara Margaret and Sydney still love us (we think).

Almost-Fail #2 The Bloomers, Water and a Flower Girl
Moments before walking down the aisle, flower girl #1 (the cooperative one) spilled water down the front of her dress. At least it was water. The unfortunate thing was that her daddy didn't see the pretty white bloomers that were supposed to cover her fashionable Sesame Street Diaper decor, so she wasn't wearing them. Sesame Street diapers show through white dresses. Thankfully the dress dried, at least enough that the pictures turned out fine.

Almost-Fail #3 Bridesmaid's Dress - last minute alterations

If you get your dress altered, be sure to try it on one more time. If you don't, you might realize that adjusting the length results in the top half of the dress not fitting, like not even close! Thankfully, there are wonderful friends who can take safety pins and do a 2 minute alteration-fail cover up, and no one will ever know. We aren't even telling which dress!

Almost-Fail #4 The Cake
Notice what size pieces are being served. If they are too large, be aware that the cake will be gone! Not to worry though - we picked up another sweet potato cake from Brick Street Cafe the next day. We cut those pieces big too and devoured an entire cake!

Almost-Fail #5 The Rain and the Camaro
We prayed for a sunny day, and God gave us a sunny day until 5:30. The heavens opened, and the showers showered all night long. Well, they were more monsoon-like than shower-like. The gracious guests battled the rain, but one man braved the elements in an extraordinary way. The Camaro Convertible (story about the car to come), which is more old than new, had a leaky roof. Our wonderful cousin drove it from Anderson to Greenville in a torrential downpour. Thankfully, the rain cleared up enough for the "getaway." Will gets the "cousin of the next 10 years" award for his contribution to the wedding!

I am sure as time goes on things will come to mind that we can add to this list. But the point is this...when planning a wedding or attending a wedding, remember, the most important thing is not a "perfect day." The most important thing is that the couple is married by the end of the day! That marriage license is a must, and the signing of it can't be forgotten.

We praise God for working out so many details in amazing ways! What a great weekend we enjoyed together!

  1. Ha ha! Those are the things in the end that "make" the day anyway, and are fun to look back on. :)

  3. We flew home to book this venue in June last year. Absolutely loved it here and I'll be certainly waiting to go back there for more events.
