Time to Carve the Turkey

By Every Tradition · Every Tradition

When Katie joined the family, she brought with her a host of culinary delights to share with us. The year she and Monroe were married, she was gracious to host Thanksgiving Dinner in Dallas. That is where our opinion of turkey was forever changed. People do all kinds of things to make turkey tasty. Some smoke it; some fry it; and some just don't like it and eat ham instead. Well, Katie's family's turkey recipe has been placed at the top of our poultry recipes. We have used it several times now, and every time the meat is delicious...perfectly tender and flavorful!

Ingredients:
  • 1 12-14# turkey (fresh is best)
  • 2 large oranges, cut in half
  • 2 sticks of butter, room temperature
  • Paprika
  • 4 Tbsp Corn Oil
  • Herbs de Provence
  • Salt and Pepper
Directions:
  1. Wash and Clean Turkey
  2. Squeeze juice from oranges outside and inside turkey
  3. Salt and Pepper cavity
  4. Rub outside of turkey with butter
  5. Sprinke outside of turkey with salt, pepper and paprika
  6. Sprinkle outside of turkey with Herbs de Provence
  7. Roast turkey in oven (follow instructions on turkey packaging, or follow this link...no undercooked poultry is desirable!!!!)
I must confess, turkey is easy to dry out; and sometimes it can be bland. However, Katie's turkey has changed my opinion about the "boring bird." It is one of my favorite things on the menu, right up there with Mom's sweet potatoes!

Happy Menu planning!
